Rocks are an integral part of nature. The sight and sound of water falling over rocks is very captivating. You often see such sights in nature and duplicating them in your own garden brings a unique beauty to your doorstep. It doesn’t have to be huge to be enchanting. Even a small rock fountain can create an oasis where the mind is relaxed and peaceful. You can even have a small rock fountain in your home.

Rock fountains come in many different shapes, sizes, colors and materials. You could go for one that is made from real stones or rocks or one that is made from synthetic materials like fiberglass. The synthetic ones are usually lightweight, easy to install and require low maintenance. They can be easily be painted or given a finish that makes them look absolutely natural. You have several different options when it comes to rock fountain styles. A few choices are:

Multi-tier rock fountain – Water flows in a sheet like form over multiple layers of rocks. The water then falls into a basin. You have the option of enhancing its beauty by adding lights and sound effects.

Single column rock fountain – In such a piece there is a single rock. As it is the focal point it is beautifully sculpted and the water flows over it. Its look is very modern, sleek and contemporary. It is not very well suited to a classic setting.

Rock waterfall fountain – The waterfall fountain looks very natural and gives the feel of gazing at or being present in the mountains. The rocks can be sculpted if you wish or you could add a statue for aesthetic purposes. Adding some plants, colorful pebbles or stones around it can enhance its beauty.

If you do not have the space you can even have a small table top rock fountain. You have the option of visiting a landscape store or an online retailer and buying a ready rock fountain. But you can also build your own. It is a very interesting project and the end result will be one of a kind. You can buy a ready to assemble kit which includes all the necessary parts including the pump. Or you can pick the individual pieces by yourself. If you wish you can even hire an experienced sculptor and technician to build an attractive rock fountain for you.

If you decide to build your own rock fountain make sure you pay special attention to the rocks. Larger rocks tend to look more natural and smaller rocks can be used to fill the gaps, concealing the pump or other hardware. While rocks are available in many different colors the most natural look will be achieved by choosing colors that match the region you live in. Also, consider the color of the other rocks or stonework around your house and garden. When it comes to shape you can go in for smooth rounded stones or sharp and angular ones. Both have their own features and bring something to your fountain.
